On one slightly overcast Sunday morning, we decided to go exploring at Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo. We came here at 9:30 AM, and it was drizzling a little bit; the place actually seemed vivid and fresh. 😍☘
At the entrance, a majestic statue of Buddha welcomed us, setting the tone for a peaceful day surrounded by natural beauty. As soon as we entered, we felt the park’s openness. The greenery was vibrant, and colorful blossoms added to the charm. The well-maintained walking trails were winding and inviting. The park was lively with families, couples, and tourists enjoying the serene environment.
In the heart of the park, the statue of Queen Viharamahadevi stood proudly, surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and water fountains. Another highlight was the Cenotaph War Memorial, honoring the sacrifices of Sri Lankan soldiers in both World Wars.
For nature lovers, Viharamahadevi Park is a paradise. The variety of plants and trees, especially those in bloom from March to May, create a colorful and fragrant tapestry. We watched Muscovy ducks paddling in the artificial lake, adding to the park’s charm. The rain-drenched leaves and flowers sparkled, enhancing the natural beauty.

Despite the drizzle, some picnickers found shelter under the trees. The park offers ample shade and a cool environment, making it perfect for picnics and outdoor activities. Food vendors were scattered throughout, offering a variety of local snacks to ensure no one left hungry.
Viharamahadevi Park is very well kept by the Colombo Municipal Council. The park is maintained in a very clean and orderly manner. Policies are put in place in such a way that the park remains safe and enjoyable to all visitors by enforcing rules regarding littering and disturbance of any kind.
The park also serves as a cultural venue. During our visit, preparations were underway for a night cultural show featuring Sri Lankan music and dance. The open theatre hosts live performances regularly. Locals and fitness enthusiasts use the jogging tracks and fitness trails, adding to the park’s dynamic atmosphere.
